Welcoming Vok!

Welcoming our rescue Vok into the center today!

A long drive to rural Canterbury last night for an emergency rescue, and Dora picked up this sweet big boy, retired hunter with a shoulder injury. While not fully prepared to welcome a new dog with the big move to Bay of Plenty ahead, we however couldn’t say no to this gentle soul. We are grateful that his people decided to do the right thing to him for his retirement years.

He is a 13-year-old yellow lab mix (potentially greyhound), and we’ve been told he was an amazing hunter, but now he is at the end of his hunting life.

He is a very sweet boy looking forward to his well-deserved golden years on a lifestyle block, in front of a fireplace in the cold winter nights. He is quiet, chill and affectionate, loves people and comfort and settled so well in the car and his bed at home. He is well crate trained, and house broken.

Vok will have his vet appointment this afternoon, fingers crossed that he is sound health wise and we can address his leg in a minimally invasive way.

We will upload high resolution portrait photos soon and provide updates on his journey. For now, we will just give him a bit of time to rest and decompress and have a full medical checkup.
