Due to recent safety breach (cross-contamination resulting from a ride-on lawn mower operated in both contaminated and previously safe areas) we have a new case in a previously non contaminated area and all JDC Rescue premises are placed under total parvovirus lockdown.
No dogs will be permitted entry or exit, and no visitors will be allowed until January 24th. All volunteers must have full personal protective equipment (PPE) upon entry and adhere to the specific emergency protocols prior to accessing any dog areas: parvo area, quarantine area, and non-contaminated adult residents’ area.
Each dog is already housed in an individual kennel without outside time for the next two weeks, until the outbreak is effectively contained, the concrete grounds are professionally decontaminated, and grass run areas are moved to uncontaminated locations.
Run 2, which accommodates adult rescues and kennels, remains unaffected but is closed as a precaution due to potential cross-contamination.
We have experienced one fatality and have three vaccinated puppies fighting for their lives – the youngest is 6 weeks. All three require 24/7 care. The remaining puppies are asymptomatic but under close supervision in quarantine. While there is currently no concern regarding the adult dogs in kennels, they will also be subject to the lockdown protocols.
Our hearts are heavy for the puppy we lost, the three puppies currently fighting for their lives, and all others who will be confined 24/7 until the risk of further contamination has passed. We are equally saddened for the emergency and pound incoming puppies and dogs that we are unable to accept at this time. We extend our gratitude for everyone’s prayers, understanding, and support during this outbreak. Communication and updates will be limited in the coming days due to workload and the emotional toll on our staff.
Any on-site help from volunteers with veterinary experience, as well as donations of PPE, food, veterinary supplies, and high-quality disinfectants and antiseptics would be immensely helpful. Alternatively, donations to support with the costs to contain the outbreak can be made to the JDC rescue account 38-9027-0283734-00, Jack Dog Center Limited.
For the two new owners awaiting the retrieval of their dogs, please rest assured that they are safe and will be released on or after January 24th.
We apologies for any inconvenience caused by this emergency and will do our outmost to provide all support for each individual dog, whether healthy or contaminated. For any urgent matters, please call or text 0221 629 121.
